WHAT IS RHI?

Renewable heat is an application of renewable energy and it refers to the renewable generation of heat, rather than electrical power (e.g. replacing a fossil fuel boiler using concentrating solar thermal to feed radiators). The RHI is the world’s first long-term financial support programme for renewable heat.

HOW IT WORKS?

The RHI pays participants of the scheme depending on the renewable energy they produce and use to heat their houses/buildings by doing this they hope to help increase the generation of heat from renewable energy sources (instead of fossil fuels). RHI helps in not only reducing gas emissions but also by helping to meet targets for reducing the effects of climate change. There are three steps involved:

  • Step 1: Heat Systems such as Solar Thermals or Heat Pumps are installed in a property.
  • Step 2: The actual energy produced by renewable system is measured.
  • Step 3: Customers get paid a fixed amount as per the energy produced.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Domestic RHI

This scheme is designed to support the uptake of renewable heating among domestic consumers. The scheme covers single domestic dwellings and is open for homeowners, private landlords, social landlords and self-builders. This scheme is not open for new build properties other then self build. If you are off the mains gas network and using expensive oil, LPG or electricity then RHI is for you. There are four various heating systems that a household can install which qualify for RHI and they are as follows:

  • Solar Thermal
  • Biomass boilers
  • Ground Source Heat Pumps.
  • Air Source Heat Pumps

ELIGIBILITY

It is mandatory that the customer is the owner of the heating system as well as occupying the property. The heating system must have been first commissioned on or after 15 July 2009. The property must have a GDAR which includes the EPC. If the GDAR suggests loft and cavity wall insulation it must be installed prior to applying. The renewable heating system must be Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) approved.

HOW MUCH I GET

The amount the customer receives, would depend on the Renewable Heat system he/she has installed and the rate given will be for the duration of his/her RHI payment period. The income would be paid quarterly, directly from OFGEM into customers’ bank account. RHI payments are calculated based upon customer’s EPC and estimation on the usage of hot water and heating.

The current Tariff rates

HEAT SYSTEM PAYMENT FOR KILOWATT HOUR (KWH)
BIOMASS BOILERS 12.2 p
GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS 18.8 p
AIR-TO-WATER HEAT PUMPS 7.3 p
SOLAR THERMAL FOR HOT WATER 19.2 p

WHAT TO DO NEXT

You can pay upfront or you can choose Green Deal Finance as it could even reduce your installation cost. After carrying out a GDAR the GDA will recommend which system would be better for your home, the estimated cost and how much money you could earn in terms of RHI payments. In order to get RHI you need to: Book a Green Deal Assessment with us as we are approved Green Deal Advisor Organization. After an assessment we will be able to suggest the savings you will make and we can also recommend a suitable system size. We will arrange a MCS certified installer to install the new renewable heating system at your premises. Once the installation has been completed, we will fill out the RHI application form and submit it on your behalf with all the relevant documents on the website of OFGEM.

BOILER REPLACEMENT

Free replacement for old boilers is available under ECO (Energy Company Obligation) scheme. It offers free survey and if the boiler is approximate more than 8 years old. It offers free replacement with A-rated condensing boilers. In non mains, the replacement is allowed for LPG/Oil boilers. It is an initiative by affordable warmth to lower down energy bills cost of lower income households.

INSULATION SERVICES

We are certified for insulation services like cavity wall, external wall and loft insulation. We work under ECO (Energy Company Obligation) schemes which offer free funding for few wall and loft insulations.

EXTRACTION

We offer cavity wall extraction process that includes removal of previous improper installation instances from wall cavities. Improper instances occur due to unexpected circumstances or selection of wrong property type.
